Capable software, but pricing and contract felt steep

Smokeball does a lot well — automatic time tracking, document assembly, and matter management all work nicely. Where I'm genuinely torn is the cost and the longer-term contract commitment, which is a big ask for a small practice. The features are there, but the value equation depends heavily on your firm size.

Great for small firms, onboarding was a bit long

We moved our small firm onto Smokeball and the practice management and matter organisation have been excellent. The passive time tracking is the standout feature for us. The only thing that tempered my enthusiasm was that the initial data migration and training took longer than the sales timeline suggested.

Automatic time tracking is a billing lifesaver

Smokeball's automatic time capture has recovered billable hours our attorneys used to forget to log, and that alone has paid for the subscription. The document automation is solid too. My minor gripe is that it's tied to a Windows desktop setup, which is awkward for the couple of Mac users in our office.
