The platform itself works, but our Twilio bill grew far faster than projected once we added voice and international SMS. Per-message fees plus carrier surcharges made forecasting a nightmare, and one month we got hit with charges we didn't anticipate. Good tech, frustrating economics.
Tech works as advertised
Unpredictable, escalating costs
Twilio's messaging APIs are well documented and we had OTP texts going out within a day of signing up. Voice and SMS reliability has generally been excellent. The reason it's not five stars is that managing sender IDs and deliverability across different countries took more ongoing effort than I expected.
Great docs, fast to integrate
Cross-country deliverability needs tuning
We started small with Twilio for transactional SMS and it carried us all the way to millions of messages a month without breaking a sweat. The delivery insights and programmable messaging let us build features we couldn't have otherwise. Genuinely a platform you can build a business on.
Scales effortlessly, rich features
We run all our SMS notifications, voice alerts, and WhatsApp messaging through Twilio and it has been incredibly dependable at scale. The APIs are clean, the dashboard logs make debugging delivery issues easy, and they ship new channels constantly. Best-in-class developer experience.
Dependable at scale, clean APIs
Twilio gave us programmable SMS and voice that powered our customer alerts beautifully, and the SDKs are first-rate. I'm very happy overall. The only gripe is that the console has so many products now that finding the right setting for a new sender can be confusing at first.
