Rome2Rio showed a reasonable estimate for my train, but when I clicked through to book, the partner site quoted nearly double the price. Disappointing because I'd planned my budget around the figure shown. The search is useful but the booking links need to be more honest.
Good for initial route ideas
Booking prices far exceed estimates
Rome2Rio is a handy starting point for trip planning and the route maps are excellent. The catch is that the fares and schedules it shows aren't always current, so I had to double-check everything on the actual operator sites. Useful but treat it as a guide, not gospel.
Excellent route overview
Fares and times can be outdated
As a backpacker, Rome2Rio is one of my most-used tools. It instantly tells me whether a bus, train, or ferry is the way to go and roughly what it'll cost. Wish the app would let me save trips offline, but the core search is genuinely excellent.
Quick comparisons across modes
No offline trip saving
Rome2Rio is brilliant for figuring out how to get anywhere. It showed me every option, from train to bus to ferry, with rough prices and times for a route I had no idea how to do. Saved me hours of research and made my multi-city trip actually feasible. Love it.
Covers every transport mode clearly
I use Rome2Rio whenever I'm heading somewhere unfamiliar and it rarely lets me down. It maps out the connections beautifully. Occasionally it suggests a slightly convoluted route when a simpler one exists, but overall it's a great planning tool I keep coming back to.
Reliable multimodal planning
Occasionally odd route suggestions
