I switched my whole team to JetBrains tools and the productivity boost from the inspections and version control integration is real. My one gripe is the RAM appetite; with a couple of projects open my laptop fan never stops. Worth it for the features, but bring a powerful machine.

The JetBrains IDEs are genuinely excellent and I get a lot done in them. What keeps me torn is the annual subscription; if I ever stop paying I only keep an older fallback version. The tools are top tier, but the ongoing cost makes me weigh it against capable free editors each renewal.
JetBrains nailed it with IntelliJ. The code completion actually understands my project, refactoring across the whole codebase is fearless, and the debugger is a joy to use. PyCharm is just as good for my Python work. These IDEs have genuinely improved how I write code every single day.
On a big monorepo, IntelliJ would freeze for ten or fifteen seconds at a time during indexing, even on a machine with 32GB RAM. It made simple edits painful and I lost my flow constantly. For software this expensive I expected it to scale, but it ground to a halt for me.
With the JetBrains pack I jump between PyCharm, WebStorm and DataGrip and they all share the same shortcuts and feel. The database tools in DataGrip alone replaced two other apps for me. Constant updates, polished UX and tools that clearly come from people who write code. Superb value.
