HughesNet keeps us online and the basic plan is fine for light use. The trouble is the monthly data allowance gets eaten up fast if anyone streams video, and after that things crawl. It does the job for a rural household but you have to ration your usage.
Decent for light browsing
Data cap throttles streaming
HughesNet does provide internet where the cable companies refuse to go, which I'm grateful for. That said, the satellite latency makes video calls feel laggy and online gaming is basically out of the question. Good for the basics, frustrating for anything real-time.
Coverage in remote areas
High latency on calls and gaming
After trying two other options that never worked at our address, HughesNet finally delivered. The satellite connection has held steady through winter and the customer support line actually answered quickly when I needed to upgrade my plan. Very pleased.
Steady connection, responsive support
We had no cable or DSL option at our rural property, so HughesNet was a lifesaver. The install tech was professional and got us connected the same day. For browsing, email and video calls it has been dependable, and I appreciate that the price stayed exactly as quoted.
Available where nothing else is, no price surprises
HughesNet has been a solid choice for our remote home. Setup was straightforward, the equipment looks tidy, and we can handle work emails and the kids' homework without issue. Knowing we finally have a reliable provider out in the sticks is worth a lot.
Easy setup, reliable for everyday tasks
