FromSoftware games ask a lot of you, but beating a boss after twenty tries is a feeling nothing else delivers. The interconnected world of the Souls games is masterful. I just wish the menus and inventory management were a little less clunky.
Rewarding combat and masterful world design
Clunky menus and inventory
Elden Ring has some of the most imaginative bosses and world design I have ever seen from FromSoftware. The trouble is the difficulty spikes can feel unfair and the cryptic questlines left me confused without a wiki open. I love it and resent it in equal measure.
Inventive world and boss design
Punishing difficulty and obtuse questlines
I was hyped for Elden Ring on PC but the stuttering and frame drops during the first weeks really soured the experience for me. FromSoftware's combat demands precision and dropped frames cost me several deaths. Patches helped eventually but the launch state was disappointing.

Once the parry timing in Sekiro clicked, FromSoftware's combat became the most satisfying I have played. The art direction and bosses are unforgettable. My only minor gripe is the camera in tight arenas can fight you as much as the enemy.
Deeply satisfying combat and art direction
Camera struggles in tight spaces
I really wanted to experience FromSoftware's storytelling in Dark Souls but the complete lack of any accessibility or difficulty settings meant I just could not progress. I get that the challenge is the point, but it left me unable to enjoy what others rave about. A frustrating wall for newcomers.
No accessibility or difficulty options for new players
