I pre-ordered MindsEye expecting the polished experience that was teased, and what I got was riddled with crashes and bugs on my system. For the price Build A Rocket Boy asked, this should not have shipped in this condition. Hugely disappointing launch.
Crashes, bugs, and an unpolished launch
MindsEye has flashes of brilliance and you can tell Build A Rocket Boy aimed high. Some sequences are gorgeous, but I hit performance dips and inconsistent AI that pulled me out of it. I am hopeful but cautiously so.
Some stunning sequences
Performance dips and AI issues
After a shaky start the post-launch updates to MindsEye improved things noticeably. Build A Rocket Boy seems to actually listen to feedback, which I respect. Still a couple of rough edges, but the direction is positive.
Studio responsive to feedback
A few lingering rough edges
I admire what Build A Rocket Boy is trying with MindsEye, blending cinematic storytelling with action. It does not all land perfectly, but the creative swing is refreshing in a market full of sequels. Minor UI annoyances aside, I am enjoying it.
Refreshing creative direction
Fiddly UI
I really wanted to love what Build A Rocket Boy set out to do with MindsEye. There are genuinely interesting ideas and the Edinburgh team clearly has talent. Unfortunately the pacing drags and a few missions felt half-baked, so I came away torn.
