My Babbel subscription renewed for another year and I only noticed when the charge appeared on my statement. There was no obvious reminder beforehand and the refund request was declined. The app is okay, but being caught out by the renewal really soured my view of the company.

I was disappointed that Babbel offers far fewer languages than I expected, and the one I wanted had quite thin content. The lessons also started repeating the same vocabulary in slightly different wrappers, which felt like padding. For the subscription price I expected more depth.
Few languages, repetitive lessons for the price
Babbel's conversation-first approach really works. The lessons drilled useful phrases and the speech recognition helped fix my pronunciation. Within a couple of months I was ordering food and chatting with locals in France with real confidence. Exactly what I hoped a language app would do.

Babbel focuses on phrases I actually use, and after a few months of Spanish I could hold simple conversations on holiday. The lessons are short, the dialogues feel realistic, and the review sessions reinforce everything nicely. Easily the most practical language app I have tried.

I have tried several apps and Babbel is the one that finally stuck. The lessons build logically, the grammar tips are clear without being dry, and the practical dialogues mean I am learning language I can actually use. My Italian has come on brilliantly. Highly recommend the subscription.
